Eric Copeland - Flushing Meats| Track Feature

Eric Copeland is back with yet another solid 7" mind melter. The phase shifting, beat infused, audio trickery is still in full swing here, little surprise there. Copeland has built his entire solo career slowly advancing his unique blend of ADD riddled and THC infused music to new heights. His recent string of 7" singles has  given ground to him being a true connoisseur and purveyor of some the most experimental and accessible music out there today.

"Flushing Meats" reflects past efforts, most notably Alien in A Garbage Dump from 2009, while not necessarily retreading any ground. A tapestry of sound and intertwining rhythmic elements keep some forward momentum while never revealing in what direction anything is actually going in. The B side of "Gutterhouse" continues the perfect audio remedy for those looking to turn their reality into a oozing sugar sweet syrup mess. This is beyond noise, this is beyond crazy beats, settling on a new alien terrain. Copeland may be out of the garbage dump but he is still holding onto the key ideas that were fermented there in the first place.

Eric Copeland's "Flushing Meats" 7" is available now via Calico Corp.

BI - "Tuf Jak" | Track Feature

Eric Copeland, a man not usually known for this sort of thing, has just released an accessible pop jammer for your aural consumption. It comes courtesy of his new project BI, a collaboration with ex Haunted Graffiti and Beachwood Sparks drummer Jimi Hey. Aesthetically similar to his recent solo work, yet more polished, Copeland seems to have struck gold here. Slathered in weird vibes, “Tuf Jak” sounds like a summer day spent basking in the glow of lysergia with your back to the grass and eyes to the sky. Modulated guitar dominates the track, hammering home a classic garage beat filtered through god knows how many effects. By the time the close harmonized vocals and fuzz bass come in, you're already sold. Grab some headphones and get weird y'all.

"Tuf Jak" will be released on BI's debut 7 inch, out 4/17 via Mexican Summer.

Wooden Shjips "Lazy Bones" video

On a general level Wooden Shjips rock. Period. Their take on a well trodden brand of blues-inflected psych-rock retains the hallmarks of luminaries such as Spacemen 3 and more generally Nuggets-era garage rock. The band's newest album West continues on this path, though with some added fidelity and sheen, partially due to the involvement of former spaceman Sonic Boom.

The video for album cut "Lazy Bones" Wooden Shjips have turned to Black Dice whose distinct visual aesthetic is practically dripping out of the screen. The collaboration at first glance seems strange at best but when examining the recent trajectory of BD (and the solo work of Eric Copeland) it may not be all that surprising. After all Copeland's latest single "Whorehouse Blues" makes explicit reference to some of the blues & boogie tinged work Shjips are known for. So enjoy the video while you're mind's eye begins to take out it's dancing shoes & begins to melt.

West is out now and available from Thrill Jockey records.

Eric Copeland

Eric Copeland returns with a new full-length that continues to mine a weirdo beats & broken radio aesthetic that has come to be his trademark of sorts. the album comes after releasing a couple singles on PPM that began to showcase a new direction for the artist. Waco Taco Combo sees Copeland to tredding away from the overtly pop sensibilities of the last two singles more closely resembling. Whereas the Puerto Rican & Doo Doo Run 7"s contained short blasts of psych-pop grooves, complete with melodies and all, Waco Taco has Copeland digging into more beat driven arrangements. At times the album more closely resembles his work with Black Dice, for which he became known, though always veers back towards his own unique & identifiable sound. The album is released by Denmark based label Escho, in an edition of 500.

PPM has also announced a new 7" by Copeland titled Whorehouse Blues. The single contains three new tracks that, according to the press release, follow in a similar vein as the weirdo pop of Puerto Rican 7".
