Led Er Est - Turritopsis Blues | Video Feature

Led Er Est are back bringing with them a bit of icy detachment for this unusually warm spring. The group have announced a new full-length titled The Diver & releasing a limited single which is the soundtrack to the video above. I'm not sure much has necessarily changed since their last outing in 2009 but it's possible they gave the rest of the world time to catch up a little.

"Turritopsis Blues" is a largely instrumental affair which is full to the brim with mystery & occult vibes. At times feeling like the theme song to some long lost sci-fi classic. The accompanying video by House Plants brings an equally surreal & unusually cinematic vision to the plate. It is partly a contemplative look in urban life as it is death. The main protagonists working through partly choreographed movements that manipulate time and physics in their occult like symbology. All the while shot in clear stark takes the weave in & out of each other dancing to the music.

With their lead track "Kaiyo Maru" from The Diver Led Er Est are back where they left off on the previous LP Dust On Common (released on Wierd records). They're not leading us in a new direction here but they have refined it. They have their figure on the pulse though & did with this type of thing before a lot of other seemed to have jumped on board.

Led Er Est's Turritopsis Blues is available now on a fancy single sided 12" w/ silkscreened b-sde on Monofonus Press & their full-length will be available via Sacred Bones this May 8th.

The Men - "A Minor" | Track Feature

Kids, Record Store Day is fast approaching. You know what that means...tons of new tracks and rarities from some of your favorite bands. Like this one, taken from Sacred Bones' upcoming compilation Todo Muere Vol. 2.

"A Minor" finds The Men exploring some slightly different musical terrain, channeling Crazy Horse circa 1971. It's a good fit for the group, who seem to be able to shift from energetic slop-pop to psychedelic sludge without batting an eyelash. Another triumph from a band who seem to be able to do no wrong these days. Peep it above.

Todo Muere Vol. 2 is out on National Record Store Day, April 21st, via Sacred Bones.

Amen Dunes - Live at Shea Stadium

In what seems to be a recurring theme on this site, brooklyn venue Shea Stadium has again offered up some recordings from Amen Dunes set at a previous Last Nights curated event. This time MV & EE, Amen Dunes, & Eleven Twenty-Nine all took the stage. It was a great night filled with truly awesome tunes. Eleven Twenty-Nine provided a twin guitar & drums assault of great technical dexterity, while MV & EE were on point in their own universe of sonic bliss. Amen Dunes had a particular scorcher of a set & his tune s Lower Mind, Baba Yaga, & Diane above really drive this point home, showing Amen Dunes at their best.

Psychic Ills - Mind Daze

Psychic Ills are getting set to release their latest LP Hazed Dream, on one of Brooklyn's finest contemporary labels Sacred Bones records. The album comes after a string of limited vinyl & cassette EP's that focused on the group's more ambient & experimental practices. As such it comes as a little bit of a surprise to hear the track Mind Daze (above) from the new album as it showcases the most direct & traditional songwriting & structuring that the Ills have ever shown in their recorded output. The tune is straight up slow burning psych-rock at it's best, that is sure to engage fans of their previous work as well as attracting a few new ones at that. Hazed Dream comes out Oct 18th & is definitely an album to look out for this fall & check out the album preview below.

MV & EE "Suub Duub" tour

Hey MV & EE have announce a summer US tour making rounds across the north-east & a couple stops in Canada. The aptly titled the "Suub Duub Tour" sees the duos second outing this year & Last Nights couldn't be happier.

Some people may remember the duo's last trip out with Mick Flower this past spring on the "April Flower" tour, as Last Nights put on a show or two with them including one at Death By Audio in Brooklyn, NY of which you can see below. That night saw Jefferson High, Images, Spectre Folk, and MV & EE w/ Mick Flower all hit the stage, with a specoal guest appearance by Jeremy Earl of Woods. While emailing wiht MV, he informed me that this tour is being released as part of the duo own Heroine label.

We're stoked to also be hitting back up with Matt & Erika for another night in Brooklyn. This August 10th at Shea Stadium Last Nights will be presenting MV & EE along with Amen Dunes and Eleven Twenty-Nine. This night will also be special as Amen Dunes gets set to release his 2nd full-length album "Through Donkey Jaw" via Sacred Bones records. While not forgetting Elven Twenty-Nine, aka Tom Carter (Charalambides etc.) & Marc Orleans (Sunburned Hand of the Man) who recently released their S/T debut on Northern-Spy records. WE'll soon be providing more info on the event soon so keep your eyes peeled.

Moon Duo have just released their newest full-length Mazes via Sacred Bones and it is a scorcher of post-Spacemen 3 minimalist psych rock. For those of you familiar with Moon Duo I'm sure this came as now surprise, but maybe the fact that to honor the release Sonic Boom (of you guessed it the almighty Spacemen 3 among fantastic projects), Psychic Ills, Gary War, & Purling Hiss have all contributed remixes of tracks off of Mazes.

While above you'll find, or found, a video for Sonic Boom's remix sees slight alterations to the original. Yet upon further listens, separates itself from the original, some more wombly atmosphere here & accent there, all set to some retro vacation footage layered upon itself. Pretty rad, and definitely worth checking out.
